With the generous support of SSHF, Integrated Humanitarian Aid successfully established three Women and Girls Friendly Spaces (WGFS) in the Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA). These centers are located at Ameth Aguok, Rumamer, and Abyei Municipality, serving as vital safe havens for vulnerable women and girls in the region.
The centers are more than just physical spaces; they are platforms for empowerment, education, and protection. Weekly sessions are ongoing at each center, providing women and girls with critical information on gender-based violence (GBV) risk mitigation and available referral pathways. These sessions enable them to report GBV cases within 72 hours, fostering a community of safety, support, and resilience.
A core focus of these centers is restoring dignity and self-esteem among women and girls. To this end, over 200 vulnerable individuals—comprising 153 women and 47 girls—have been supported with dignity kits. These kits, which include essential hygiene products and personal care items, play a crucial role in promoting health, hygiene, and emotional well-being. The distribution of dignity kits has significantly motivated active participation in center activities, empowering women and girls to regain confidence and actively engage in their communities.
Beyond immediate protection and health benefits, these centers serve as catalysts for social cohesion, gender equality, and community development. They provide a safe space for learning, sharing, and healing, contributing to the broader goal of building resilient, empowered communities in Abyei.
